Rare Framed Chinese Woven Bamboo Jacket, Qing Dynasty
About the Item
This bamboo vest from the Qing Dynasty required exceptional skill to craft, using extremely thin bamboo shoots and a thin silk lining on the edges. It was worn as an undergarment for ventilation and protecting highly elaborate and expensive silk outfits from the sweat of the wearer (mainly during wedding ceremonies). This is a treasured outfit handed down through generations. A prized piece that has been kept in private collection for over 40 years.
The jacket has been framed in a wood, white lacquered frame. The interior housing features a canvas inlay and teak wood tube to hold the jacket in place. It features an acrylic front.
