19th Century Impression of Woodblock Print by Utagawa Kunisada
About the Item
A 19th century impression of a woodblock print by Utagawa Kunisada, also known as Utagawa Toyokuni III. The preint depicts the Kabuki actor Sawamura Tossho as Watanabe no Wataru and is the left print of an original diptych. The actor's name and role are printed above his right shoulder. The artist's "Gotetei Kunisada ga" signature is printed in-block alongside a kiwame censor seal and a Fujioka-ya Hikotaro publisher's seal. The piece is matted in white and frame din a thin gold toned metal frame.
Condition details: Extensive fading, light staining, and damage apparent in the lower left corner.
