Masaoka Konobu Hasegawa Signed Rare Japanese Bunraku Puppet Woodblock Print

About the Item

A somewhat rare and hard-to-find image by Japanese artist Masaoka Konobu Hasegawa (though we have also seen this image attributed to artist Hideki Hanafusa but we think this was in error) of a female Bunraku puppet. Signed and stamped within the image. Would be a great addition to any Japanese art or print collection or make for an eye-catching stand-alone accent artwork in about any setting. Framed dimensions: 20" high, 14.5" wide, 1" deep.

    By Junichiro Sekino

This exceptional and stunning, limited edition woodblock print is considered by many experts to be one of Sekino's masterpiece works (along with "Eiza and Matsuomaru"). The print of bunraku puppeteer master Kiritake Monjûrô is sealed, signed in pencil and numbered (76/100) by the artist and is also matted and framed. The print is circa 1953. A scarce and rare print. Junichiro Sekino was largely considered, along with Kiyoshi Saito, to be one of Japan's paramount 20th century master print artists. Both were prominent leaders of the Sosaku Hanga movement. Sekino's works can be found in many museums including: The Museum of Modern Art, N. Y., the Art Institute Chicago...
