Gilt Bronze Buddha in Patchwork Robe
About the Item
A beautiful 6.7 lb gilt bronze statue of young Buddha. Seated in dhyana asana on a beaded lotus throne, hands in dhyana mudra, wearing a patchwork sanghati incised with foliate scroll in the borders and hem, pleated end draped over his left shoulder and pooled gracefully around his feet. Portrayed with a serene face framed by a long pendulous earlobes, finely arched eyebrows, eyes downcast in contemplation, and slightly-smiling bow-shaped mouth, all below an ushnisha atop hair neatly arranged in rows of small whorls. A prominent urna between the eyebrows symbolizes the ability to see and expel evil spirits. Statue is closed in the base with an incised blossom.
