Monumental Japanese bas relief carving on natural wood slab
Palatial sized Japanese wood carving from the Meiji Period (1868-1912). This stunning sculpture is carved with great skill and artistic craftsmanship in a low relief surface. Ornamental designs of landscapes and foliage are characteristics of Japanese carvings. The result, of this monumental relief on a natural shaped wood slab, is a most exciting singular masterpiece and praised as a cultural treasure. The finely polished surface has a lacquer coating to ensure a high shine and beautiful luster.
This piece was said to have been exhibited at the Panama - Pacific International Exposition San Francisco 1915.
Condition is very good. Commensurate with age.
