Japanese Vintage Indigo Woven Ikat Kasuri Textile Panel
About the Item
A Japanese hand-woven panel with indigo blue background with white ikat chevron and diamond pattern. Sewn together from four loom-woven narrower stripes, the large panel was likely a Futonji (futon cover) or Yutan (covering cloth) based on its size. The geometrical pattern was woven with a technique called warp ikat (known as Kasuri in Japanese), in which the warps were resistant dyed prior to the weaving. The piece is likely dated to Taisho period (first half of 20th century).
