17th Century Louis XIII Andirons, Firedogs

About the Item

Wedding pair of andirons whereby both parties donate one andiron from the same blacksmith. With spit hooks. These French andirons are called 'landiers' in France. This dates from the times the andirons were the main cooking equipment in the house. They had spit hooks to grill meat or poultry and sometimes a cup to keep drinks warm.
