This stunning and exquisite sideboard cabinet was expertly crafted from Rosewood with brass and rose lucite center cabinet pulls. This monumentally sized cabinet was clearly an important piece as its craftsmanship and materials are first-class. The rippled Rosewood cabinet doors and rose tinted lucite pulls are ahead of its time. Refinished in a French Polish which accentuates the exotic Rosewood grain and protects the surface against regular daily use. The features on this eye-catcher are quite comprehensive. Let's start with the most obvious: incredible book-matched Rosewood across the top, front center doors and running along the base and side cabinet doors. Such wild attention to detail creating a stunning visual effect. Now let's pay attention to the more subtle details such as the rippled corners - there are actually concealed compartment doors somewhat hidden in those ripples. The center door pulls are also superb - the center plates in lightly patinated brass and the handles in rose colored lucite with gently beveled edges. Four keys are included with the cabinet, as seen in photos. While we are confident that this cabinet was designed by someone important and for an important client, we are unsure of the maker at this time. It was previously attributed to Louis Majorelle however we are uncertain of that so we are not listing it as such. Rosewood with this exotic of grain combined with high quality interiors and hardware, plus the use of rose colored lucite pulls is a sign that this was not just any run of the mill piece but something with plenty of thought and care devised into its creation. Such an incredible piece of Maison Jansen history, this large and unique French Rococo style parcel-gilt mirror depicting a hand-painted Chinoiserie scene was authenticated by Maison Jansen historian and author James Archer Abbott, a digital image of his authentication letter to be provided upon sale. Described in James Archer's letter: "The exceptional c. 1940-1950 Chinoiserie-style lacquered frame with mirrored glass insert is characteristic of that firm's (Maison Jansen) finest work. This rather monumental mirror - or looking glass - is consistent with Jansen's concern for the finest quality of finish - particularly masterfully applied lacquer. Presumably once one of a pair intended for a great salon, gallery, or dining room, this surviving example represents Jansen's output under the supervision of celebrated tastemaker Stephane Boudin...
