French Bronze and Cast Iron Second Empire Firedogs, Andirons or Chenets

About the Item

A heavy pair of French bronze and cast iron chenets also called andirons or firedogs, in the Napoleon III, Second Empire style, circa 1890-1910, 19th century. The chenets are cast in a classical French design appointed with hanging cast bronze rings, two additional ornaments seen to the front and top are attached by screws. An impressed shell motif pattern separates the pierced bases. Refinished in matte black, they sit on heavy, long triangular shaped log supports. Measures: 9.75 in. H x 5.5 in. W x 14 in. L The attached iron supports are 2.5 in. H x 11.75 in. L Very good antiques condition with lovely patina and the expected light rust in areas.
