About the Item
An Empire style gilt bronze-mounted green granite fireplace.
French, circa 1850.
The fireplace has a rectangular mantel shelf above a frieze centred by applied gilt-bronze mounts of an Eagle and wreath supported by winged female figures holding aloft Laurel branches and holding ribbon garlands.
The jambs of the fireplace are enlivened with gilt bronze mounts of neo-classical urns and anthemion motifs and put down on plinth bases.
The fire aperture is framed by an inset cast iron frame cast with rosettes and foliate motifs.
