Georgian Style Chimneypiece in Statuary, Sienna and Brocatelle Marble
About the Item
An elegant 20th century Georgian style chimneypiece in statuary and inlaid sienna
and brocatelle marble. The frieze beneath the breakfront shelf embellished
with inlaid sienna festoons and centred by a tablet of a lidded urn surmounted by
a pair of seated sphinx draped with further festoons. The end blocks with tall vases
above descending inlaid sienna bellflowers on the jambs.
English, mid-20th century.
Notes: There is an almost identical fireplace in the Library of Shropham Hall, Norfolk, England.
