Large Georgian Style Jasper and White Marble Fireplace Mantel
About the Item
A substantial and very good quality copy of an 18th century Irish fireplace. An abundant use of Italian Jasper marble with white marble carved vines and foliage adorning the jambs. Egg and dart moulded interior slips and along the under moulding of the wide breakfront 3 piece shelf. The central tablet illustrates Aesop’s fable 'The Dog and the Shadow', the moral of which is ‘thou shall not covet’.
