Mahogany fireplace mantel and trumeau
About the Item
Napoleon III mahogany wood chimney piece and red marble fireplace mantel with full cast iron insert. Beautifully carved, the main feature of the mantel decoration are the bowed greyhound heads on each side. The overmantel egg-and-dart frame is flanked by pilasters topped with capitals decorated with horns of abundance.
The hearth is framed by a Red Languedoc marble mantel, and the large three panel cast iron insert represents the same themes of greyhounds and horns of abundance surrounding a French royal crowned coat of arms. The two side panels are covered with a pattern of ermine spots.
