Pair Early 20th Century Cast Stone Fruit Baskets
About the Item
This pair of very unusual cast stone baskets are centered with a large starfish on the top. This is a form we have never seen in 40 years in the business. The baskets are well articulated with a woven surface and the fruit is large and nicely modeled as well as the central starfish and its body's characteristics. Cast with bits of mica the pair were purchased in Palm Beach and clearly relate to the sea and the Floridian gold coast. We feel the pair are from the great days of the twenties and cast right in the area during Palm Beach's rise to prominence as a winter resort for flush capitalists of the era. They still retain areas of mossy growth and surface patina which we have not attempted to clean or remove.
