Pair of Italian Late 18th Century Neo-Classical St. Torchière Pedestal Stands

About the Item

An outstanding and extremely decorative pair of Italian late 18th century Neo-Classical st. faux painted Porphyry and giltwood Torchière pedestal stands from Piedmont. Each unique stand is raised by three elegantly curved legs with lovely carved rosette feet with a mottled giltwood fillet leading upwards with a finely carved laurel band. Above each leg is a carved block rosette and concave fluted support centered by a charming floral reserve and framed within a beaded band. The elegant tapered central supports display wonderfully executed faux painted Porphyry backgrounds with giltwood accents. Above are impressive richly carved tied giltwood swaging berried laurel garlands hung from floral reserves flanking handsome cameos of men set on a faux painted Portoro marble background. The top shelves display beautiful urn shapes with superb finely detailed wrap around foliate bands. Top Diameter: 9.5".
