Art Nouveau Majolica Jardinière by Jerome Massier
About the Item
Beautiful Art Nouveau Vallauris majolica jardinière, circa 1900.
This jardinière exhibits a beautiful blue glaze throughout with stunning shades.
Stylised half man, half beast figures appear to hold up the main bowl and rest on a circular moulded base.
The underside is stamped twice with Jerome Massier's maker's mark. Massier (1850-1916) worked with his cousins to revive ceramic art during the late 19th and early 20th Centuries.
The Massiers worked in the French town of Vallauris and became famous for their new technique of glazing majolica which created a new spectrum of colours.
This is a highly decorative and unusual jardinière, with fantastic colour and whimsical appeal.
