Vessel 006

About the Item

Hand-cast vessel for indoor and outdoor use. Drainage holes can be added. At the intersection of art, craft, and design, Concrete Poetics' debut collection of hand-cast cement sculptural furniture and accessories streamlines visually intriguing and dynamic forms juxtaposing the density of the material. Raw, brutal, visceral, and striking optical qualities are embedded in the ensemble of modular candle holders, bowls, vessels, side tables, and stools, alluding to ceremonies, rituals, and celebrations. The inspiration comes within the process. The shapes, patterns, and arrangements are created intuitively, informed by nature, land, and sea, to then later be articulated, making them suitable for casting. Ultimately exhilarated by the wabi-sabi sensibility, the urban and industrial surroundings, the final result is very organic, embracing the irregularity and the imperfection that makes every piece exceptional. These pieces are not mass-produced. They are handmade locally in New York city, on-demand or small-batch, using artisanal mold-making and casting techniques. They are susceptible to inaccuracy and deviation during the making of the casts. Therefore the executed pieces are not identical to those shown in the pictures. Imperfection and uniqueness are embraced and emboldened as part of the creative process and an intrinsic part of the brand's identity.

Made of unglazed terracotta this Chinese storage jar bears the marks of its creation in the smoky clouds that coat its exterior. The vessel was likely pit fired, a process that dates back thousands of years. Essentially a baking technique, clay objects were put in a pit, covered with combustibles and burned. At high heat, vapors swirl around the objects staining the clay with haphazard swirls of color. With its distinctive coloration and wide, open profile, this monumental vessel...
