Pair of Carved Brownstone Recumbent Lions in the American Folk Art Style

About the Item

A rare pair of carved brownstone American Folk Art lions, in recumbent pose with full manes and tails curled to opposing sides, their expressive faces with mouths slightly open, accentuated by stippled whisker marks and soulful lidded eyes. Provenance:Frederick and Susan Copeland estate, Cheshire, CT estate. The pair was likely carved from brownstone cut from nearby Portland, CT quarries.
