This beautiful Tinaja (Spanish for clay jar) has a single spout near the bottom and is marked/carved at one side with "Padilla Villarrobledo", the village from where this jar originates, and additional numbering information below. The jars were used to store and cool water. They were also used in the aging process in wine making as the clay would allow the wine to breathe and not have an effect on taste as wood barrels do.
