An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver bon bon dish; part of our Christmas themed silverware collection This exceptional antique Victorian English solid silver bon bon dish has been realistically modelled in the form of a reindeer drawn sleigh. The main vessel of this sterling silver dish is embellished with fine chased decorated floral motifs and leaf textures,incorporating a scroll bordered vacant cartouche to either side. The oval rounded cargo bed/vessel of the sleigh is supported by two impressive cast silver leaf decorated runners, conjoined to one end with a crowned swan design. This exceptional Victorian bon bon dish body is further ornamented with an impressive cast putto* design, holding the reigns. The fine reigns conjoin to the impressive cast silver reindeer ornamented to the forefront of the vehicle, in a classic Christman theme. The hallmarks struck to the body and cover include: Maker's mark: ETB (Edwin Thompson Bryant) Silver quality/purity mark: 930*, Lion passant (sterling, 925/1000) Date mark: e (1900) Assay mark: Leopard head (London, England) Additional mark: F (foreign manufacture mark) * In art and culture, a putto (plural: putti) is a chubby male child, usually nude and occasionally bearing wings. It can be determined in this instance that a child figure was used to represent Baby Jesus, as in many cultures/demoninations he is percieved as the true spirit of Christmas. ** The country of origin hallmarked this item with the standard mark 930 and once imported into Britain the silver purity was tested and hallmarks struck reaffirming the silver is a minimum of sterling standard. Condition This antique Victorian bon bon dish in sterling silver is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The chased decoration is very sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of one runner, and 930 mark to the underside of the carriage are very clear. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this Victorian bon bon dish.
