18th C. Meissen Hausmaler Decorated Bowl with High Relief Multi-Colored Flowers

About the Item

An Incredible and Rare 18th Century Meissen Hausmaler Decorated Bowl with High Relief Multi-Colored Flowers. Hand-carved with encrusted and relief flowers which decorate the exterior wall of the bowl. The bowl is decorated with Hausmaler designs, which were most probably accomplished by Johann Friedrich Metzsch (1706-1766) around 1740. Metzsch is well known for developing a particularly beautiful range of porcelain colors and palates. His signature motif is a purple seashell, which can be seen in the top border of the inside rim of the bowl. The interior of the bowl is very finely hand-painted with a bouquet of flowers and fruit in a variety of polychrome colors and shades of red, green, purple, yellow, orange, puce, and blue. The interior border is decorated with flowers, seashells, leaves, floral swags, and scrolling sections. The piece is further adorned with 24K gilt decoration. The exterior of the bowl is supremely decorated with relief hand-carved flowers each hand-painted in polychrome enamels and further decorated with leaves. Germany, Circa: 1740
