"Dark Nude, " Striking, Art Deco Mythological Bowl W/ Male Nude & Deer by Mayodon
About the Item
Strikingly glazed in tones of dark gold and charcoal, this unusual, small, high-walled bowl by Jean Mayodon depicts a shadowy nude figure on the right, reaching out to a deer which is peeking into the scene from the left. Mayodon loved to depict nude mythological figures in bucolic or Classical settings, and here he adds to the antiquated scene with the use of faux-veining throughout the bowl, especially the sides. Mayodon was one of the great masters of Art Deco porcelain and ceramics, and created a great variety of ceramic vases, jars, plates and bowls. The reverse side is clearly marked with Mayodon's monogram.
