About the Item
HANS SENGERS (Johanna Leentje van der Ham Sengers 1923-2015) - Exceptional wheel thrown studio pottery charger with splash/hand painted decoration - dramatic form showing finger ridges throughout - signed on the base - Canada - mid 20th century.
Excellent vintage condition - old firing crack (as photographed - not affecting its' integrity) - no loss - no damage - no restoration - minor signs of age and use.
Size/Dimensions - 13" Diameter x 3 1/2" Deep.
HANS SENGERS - Born in The Netherlands, the ninth of nine children, Hans had her adolescence and young adulthood taken away from her by World War II and the Occupation. Following the war she worked in costume and set design in the Rotterdam theatre scene before meeting the true love of her life, her dashing husband, Frans Sengers. After the birth of their only child, the family emigrated to begin a new life in Oakville, Canada, where Hans became a professional potter, teaching at the Oakville Arts Society and Sheridan College.
