Japanese Very Old Excavated Pottery Bowl / 12th-13th Century / Wabi Sabi Object

About the Item

This is unglazed pottery made in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. The period is from the 12th century to the 13th century. This area has been producing high-quality tableware since around the 8th century, but the demand from the common people gradually increased, and the production of tableware for daily life such as rice bowls began around the 12th century. This is one of them. Many dishes were burned, but most of them are lost and damaged, so there are not many left now. However, tea bowls are sometimes unearthed during excavations around the kilns where they were produced, and on rare occasions during excavations of land for building houses. It is likely that this tea bowl was also found during such excavations. (In addition, since a similar item was published in the art book, the photograph is posted.) Most are broken or missing. But this bowl is fortunately intact. Also, since these items are made thin, they may bend or warp due to the heat when fired in the kiln. This bowl is also distorted, but we should think of it as a beauty that nature can create. In order to mass produce, many such tea bowls were fired in layers. For this reason, the center of the tea bowl was covered with the bottom of another tea bowl, so you can see that the color is different from the surrounding area. And the surrounding parts such as the edge of the bowl are covered with natural glaze. The part that is slightly glossy and slightly green is the natural glaze part. One part of the edge of the bottom of the back side seems to be missing, but this seems to be a part that was dented by some kind of pebble when it was fired in the kiln. I filled it halfway with water and left it for a day, but it didn't leak. Very good condition. Since it is an excavated item, it is not suitable for eating because it smells a little like soil. Enjoy it for viewing, or fill it with water and decorate it with flowers. I think it's very nice. Also, I want many people to know the goodness of Japanese antiques, so I set the price at a reasonable price. How about showing off to your friends around you? Weight: 299g.
