Papau New Guinea Carved Wood Feast Bowl

About the Item

A stunning and large antique tribal carved wooden feast bowl originating from Papau New Guinea and dating from the early 20th century. The bowl is hand chip carved in a light wood and is of long elliptical form resting on a small flat round foot and with carved terminals to either end with an open work supporting band below. The bowl has wear and discoloration associated with age and use with some natural drying cracks and wear to the raised edges. The bowl is not marked. A wonderful and interesting display piece. Provenance: Acquired in the UK Art Market. In good presentable condition with wear associated with age and use with age rubbing to the edges and some natural drying cracks to the wood. The bowl has a good and genuine age patination.
