Théodore Deck Attributed French Ormolu Mounted Majolica Tazza

About the Item

A very stylish and unusual French ormolu mounted majolica tazza molded with figures set within an abstract design border attributed to Theodore Deck (1823-1891) and believed to date from around 1880. The majolica dish sits within an open work ormolu frame raised on three scroll legs with winged masks applied around the upper edge and with three freely hanging handles. The majolica pottery dish is of rounded shallow form the center with a raised nude sat on a flowering vine with two winged cherubs. The scene decorated in turquoise glazes is set within a slightly raised center within a simple blue and yellow line border the outer rim hand decorated in colors with a futuristic abstract design incorporating grotesque serpent heads. The base of the dish is decorated in blue with a white glazed base with an impressed T mark and a painted black H mark. In good condition with age wear to the ormolu mount.

    A rare and stunning French majolica twin handled pottery bowl applied with birds by renowned maker Sarreguemines and dating from the latter 19th century.
