Etling Art Deco Fish Opalescent Cup

About the Item

Etling, art deco cup circa 1930 in opalescent molded glass decorated with fish. In very good shape. Micro scratches from use under the base. Diameter: 33cm Height: 7cm Weight: 2.7 Kg Edmond Laurent Etling (before 1909 - circa 1940) was a French art dealer, gallery owner, designer and manufacturer of high quality decorative objects in bronze, ceramics and art glass in the Art Deco style. He owned La Société Anonyme Edmond Etling (English: Edmond Etling Limited Company) for manufacture, his foundry was called Edmond Etling & Cie, and sometimes the products are called "Etling Glass". His gallery, the Galerie Béranger was located in Paris (however there are discrepancies on the exact address). His company La Société Anonyme Edmond Etling, founded in Paris in 1909, made decorative objects and commissioned sculptors and artists, including Georges Béal, Demetre Chiparus, Claire Colinet, Armand Godard, Geneviève Granger, Marcel Guillard, Maurice Guiraud-Rivière, [3] Géza Hiecz, Fanny Rozet and Lucille Sévin. Other artists worked with Etling when casting their statuettes, including Aurore Onu, Marcel Bouraine, Pierre Le Faguays,[6] Raymonde Guerbe and André Vincent Becquerel. Etling is noted for his light blue opalescent objects such as plates and bowls, which were also produced in gray and frosted glass. Most items bore the cast signature "Etling France" followed by a model number linked to the Choisy-le-Roi catalog. In 1910, Etling received the honorary degree at Brussels International (1910). In 1923, he received the Grand Prix de Paris. In 1940, Etling closed his store due to World War II.[4] Because Etling was of Jewish descent, he was sent to a Nazi concentration camp where he died. In the 1970s, the Manufacture Royale de Porcelaine de Sèvres reproduced certain drawings by Etling, in particular the female nudes.
