Hinged Inlaid Malachite and Lapis Cigar Box, Los Castillos Style, Mexico, 1950s

About the Item

Hinged inlaid malachite and sodalite (or lapis lazuli) brass metal box with rosewood interior. An Aztec pyramid and mountains grace the lid. The metal smiths of Taxco, Mexico were known for producing this type of cigar box in the 1950s. Stamped "MEXICO" on bottom.
