18th Century Italian Baroque Hand Painted Wild Flowers on Burl Wood Tea Caddy

About the Item

Very pretty 18th Century decorative shaped box, it used to be a tea caddy and is made in wood with burl wood veneer and hand painted decoration. Back from the days when tea was worth its weight in gold and it needed to be kept in pretty boxes. On the lid it shows a a love couple sitting by the harbour. The sides shows floral arrangements depicting pansy's, roses, forget me not's, foxglove's, lila's and many more. The paint work is beautiful and the colours are still particularly vibrant. Inside the tea compartments it has part of silvered paper lining inside, that was there to absorb moisture and keep the tea fresh. The interior of the lid still has the original pink satin silk upholstery. This really is a stunning rare piece.
