19th Century English Victorian Hand Painted Letter Box, Dated 1890

About the Item

Unusual 19th century letter box with whimsical ink decoration inside and out, signed and dated 1890. With wonderfully naive ink decoration, including a Chimera being ridden by a sprite blowing an elaborate horn. Also a lovely small Dutch style landscape and seascape inside. Signed with the monogram LH and dated 1829-1890. Also signed on the bottom in pencil with monogram and name that I can't make out. Two slots on top for letters and a small working lock and key. A wonderful unique piece of Victoriana with personalized decoration. Measures: 8.5 inches wide, 6.5 high, 5 deep.
