French Maison Gellée et Gainier Leather and Brass over Wood Decorative Box

About the Item

A French wooden decorative box from the 19th century from the Maison 'Gellée Gainier' à la Boule d'Or, Paris, leather bound with brass braces, presenting a compartmented interior and brass lateral handles. Created on the Île de la Cité close to the Pont Neuf of Paris during the 19th century, this handsome rectangular box is made of a leather over wood structure accented with a regular rhythm of brass braces whose golden color contrasts with the dark brown wood beautifully. A rectangular lid, showcasing the monogram AB in its center, opens to reveal a compartmented interior fitted with chamois cloth, intended to receive cutlery. The label indicates the provenance. The sides present lateral handles allowing the piece to be moved more easily. Boasting great age and rustic character, this French Maison Gellée Gainier leather, wood and brass box from the 19th century will make for an elegant addition to any home, placed in a living room, bedroom or hallway.
