Late 18th C. English Carved Wood Document Box

About the Item

An English small-sized wooden box, circa 1770-1800. This antique box from England has been lovingly hand-carved with four quartered-wheels at each inner corner of the central panel, flanked within rectangular panels with hanging bows carved at their centers; all adorning the front side. Beautiful moldings trim the edges and lower section of the box, which is raised on volute-carved front feet and bracket back feet. Cotter pin hinges hold the top on at back, and iron pulls are fitted at either far side. The backside remains un-decorated and flat. There is a nice, old patina throughout; a reflection of the age of this piece. This late 18th century English document box will make a great decorative object for your study, in a kitchen for old family recipes, or placed upon a bookshelf, holding keepsakes within.
