Piet Zwart "Koksmaat" for Bruynzeel

About the Item

Painted plywood coffin attributed to Piet Zwart. Manufactured by Bruynzeel (Netherlands) in circa 1938. Painted plywood coffin "Koksmaat" (Cook's mate). Dimensions: H 49 cm / D 42 cm and H 31 cm / D 42 cm Signed in the outside by Bruynzeel & Koksmaat in paint. In good original condition with wear consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina. Piet Zwart (1885-1977) was a Dutch photographer, typographer, and industrial designer. He went to the National School of Applied Arts in Amsterdam. He worked for a company called NKF for which he designed his corporate image. With that with his personal style he managed to develop one of the most complete and best resolved corporate images of the early 20th century. The resolution of complex communication systems was his primary concern and his greatest achievement. He was influenced by the artistic avant-garde, be it Cubism, Futurism, Dadaism, Constructivism, De Stijl. But it did not belong in an integral or exponential way of any.
