A Rare Huntley and Palmers Novelty Biscuit Tin, English Circa 1900

About the Item

A Rare Huntley and Palmers Novelty Biscuit Tin, English Circa 1900 This remarkable rare survivor was produced as a novelty biscuit tin to attract customers at high class shops such as Selfridges and Harrods. It is made from tin plate and has brilliant detail representing the form of an antique silver chest the type used in a large stately home to store its domestic silver collection. This tin simulates this to a remarkable degree showing detail of the wooded chest which is heavily steel bound with strapping and long hinges. On the top there are two decorative roundels, one dated 1614 and the other a family coat of arms. On the front there are two large hinged hasps for locking the chest and to each side of these there is a shield, one baring the letter h and the other p. At each end of the chest there is a large carrying handle. This remarkable tin has a Huntley and Palmer advertisement on the underside and a registration number on the reverse. Circa 1900.
