Sailor's Inlaid Ditty Box

About the Item

A sailor's ditty box for holding a sailor's valuables (mending needles, thread, pipe tobacco, razor, mementos, etc.) having a mirrored and gilt framed interior lid, with pull-out compartment dividers in two layers below. Inlaid top of six-point star and two banded diamonds, on a ground of wonderful mahogany grain, all over elaborately decorated raised sides comprising layers of rippled, knobbed and variously profiled contoured moldings in an ebonized finish. Presentation quality. Now a handsome decorative object also useful as a jewelry box.
