This fabulous rectangular sterling silver box was made in 1887 by English silversmiths William Thomas Wright and Frederick Davies and has been fitted with a hand painted enamel plaque on the lid that features a genre scene. The delightful image is set within an elegantly appointed salon and depicts an artist seated in front of a gilt-framed canvas that bears a partially completed portrait of a baby. The painter is surrounded by an entourage of sumptuously attired women who are attempting to capture the baby's attention and direct it toward the artist. The lid opens with a tapering tab at the front. The child's nurse holds her charge upright on a table that is covered by an ornate embroidered cloth trimmed in fringe. A lady dressed in purple stands next to her and leans toward the child in an attempt to cajole the baby into cooperating with the task at hand. The artist is seated opposite the child on an upholstered bench and holds his paintbrush in his right hand while simultaneously pointing up to a cluster of fruit. The fruit cluster is dangled by a lady dressed in a patterned yellow gown who wears a bemused expression on her face as she attempts to focus the baby's attention. Another woman dressed in blue and pink is seated in a green upholstered chair...

This fabulous circa 1902 cedar lined cigar box was made by Gorham as part of the company's Athenic range, introduced at the turn of the 20th century. The 3 pound 10 ounce rectangular mixed metal box has a copper body and bears decorative sterling silver ornamentation. The box rests on four silver pad form feet. The piece has a hinged lid which features a colorful inset enameled plaque at the center. The charming scene depicts an image after well regarded British artist and illustrator Cecil Aldin's 1830 work "The Oxford Coach". These fabulous 19th century neoclassical French cassolettes have an athénienne form and are composed of bloodstone ornamented with beautifully detailed ormolu mounts. The green ovoid vessels are flecked with red and are each supported by three gilt bronze legs finished with rams hooves at the bottom and rams heads at the top. A central ring holds the legs firmly in place. The upper portion of the vessels bear wide gilt bronze bands decorated with floral and foliate motifs. The undersides are finished with a series of detailed leaves separated by stems and small berries with pinecone pendants...

This ceramic vase and lidded jar were designed by Aldo Londi, art director for Bitossi ceramiche in Montelupo, Italy. Both pieces feature large stylized flowers and have been finished in Bitossi's rich Rimini blu glaze reminiscent of the Adriatic. The underside of the jar and vase bear stamped and hand-painted manufacturer marks and retain their original Rosenthal-Netter paper labels. The lidded jar measures 16.5" tall with the lid, 5.5" wide at the base and 4.5" across at the mouth. The vase stands 8.5" tall, 6.5" at its widest point and 4.375" across at the mouth and foot.
