Art Deco Ladies Traveling Necessaire Ensemble, American, circa 1925

About the Item

Art Deco ladies traveling necessaire ensemble consisting of 13 implements for grooming, contained in a hard cardboard green branch decorated traveling case. The grooming implements are made of green resin composite and decorated on one side with a faux jeweled design in green, gold and blue. To the opposite side is an amber colored bakelite. The Art Deco style and the bakelite application indicate American manufacture, and a circa 1925 date, the Bakelite Corporation having been formed in 1922. Bakelite was introduced and patented in 1909 by Leo Baekeland from Yonkers, New York. All of the above grooming implements and cases are in excellent all original condition with only minor wear (see images). The gold satin interior base is worn and has some tears here and there (please see images). The ensemble shows very nicely and can be displayed in the case, or spread out on a wash Stand, or even on a bathroom counter top. Two metal clasps for closing the case are original and keep the case in a closed position. The implements consist of the following: hair brush (9 5/8" long) large comb (8" long) hair "tidy" box (lid with the circular hole on top for loose hairs) (5 1/4" wide) jewelry box with lid (similar in size to above) 5 1/4" wide) (2) "what not" boxes with lids (for buttons, etc.) 2 1/4" wide small pair of scissors (5" long) large nail file ( 7 1/2" long) medium sized tray (10 3/4" long) nail buffer with case (6 1/4" long) shoehorn (7 3/8" long) button hook (7 1/4" long) cuticle groomer (5 1/2" long) The case measures: 28" long x 13" deep x 3" high.

  • "Dancing Dog" Vintage Windup Toy. American, Circa 1925
By Lindstrom Tool & Toy Company 1
    Located in Incline Village, NV
"Dancing Dog" is a fairly scarce toy to acquire, especially in this excellent condition and working order. Windup toy is lithographed and hand painted in colors of black and greenish grey, and the name "Spot" is printed in bold letters on the red collar. This is American made in the 1920's having been manufactured by the Lindstrom Company of Bridgeport, Connecticut; established in 1913. Markings to each side of the dog reveal its genesis; "The Lindstrom Tool and Toy Co.; Made in U.S.A." "Patent Applied For"; on the other side is "Dancing Dog". "Dancing Dog" is in excellent condition and is completely original with no repairs or repaint. It works perfectly and is quite amusing. To operate; wind up the attached key on the side, a couple of times; with front legs in the air, place down by his hind legs on a hard surface and watch "Spot" dance. He carries on for quite some time, dancing around in a circle and then side to side. (see attached video accompanying the listing). Dimensions: 5 1/4" wide x 4" high x 2 1/4" deep. Provenance: From a recently acquired discerning West Coast Collection of tin toys. See my other listings of vintage toys. Note: After 40 plus years of dealing and collecting toys, I am justly qualified to guarantee and present the authenticity of antique and vintage toys and children's playthings; important considering the fakes and reproductions in the marketplace. My toys operate properly and are as stated and accurately described. it would behoove an enterprising collector, dealer, or decorator to take advantage of the opportunity to buy as many of the vintage tin toys...
