About the Item
Bellis is a new, aesthetic storage unit for jewelry and accessories: a ‘jewel bed’.
The late 16th and early 17th century fashionable ruff collars in baroque Europe served as inspiration for designer Bilge Nur Saltik. She used this delicate, floral-inspired pattern to make an object that will be used with other precious personal items, the jewelry.
Bellis marries the elegance of leather and the firmness of steel. Folded leather pieces are connected with each other and supported by a circular steel base and a small storage cap in the center. The leather bed is made from tiny pieces of vegetable-tanned leather, while the two steel components are hand-spun and finished with powder coating.
Bellis unveils a unique approach to storing and displaying jewelry. The central metal container and the looped leather bed separately offer storage options while creating an aesthetic harmony. At Uniqka, we keep all the off-cut material in our workshop for use in later designs. This idea, where the tiniest leather pieces are repurposed into elegant and functional items, is the basis around which Bellis was built.
Bellis comes in five colorways. Green and black leather have a dark green steel base, while brown and nude leather have a dark brown steel base. Finally, the navy blue leather has a tone-in-tone metal base.
