Rare, colorful and highly decorative Chinese box.
If you like the look and feel of Chinese antiques and ancient Asian symbolism then this handcrafted and hand carved box from the turn of the century could be perfect for you. Its unusual size (smaller than a cabinet, but larger than your average antique box) may have something to do with the content we purchased it with. In a number of the small compartments we found Chinese porcelain tea cups. It is because of these many compartments that this gilt and red lacquered Chinese antique will also make a wonderful and highly decorative jewelry box. Hand carved in the panels of the drawers are hummin birds milking flowers, but also long-tailed dragons. Have you also noticed the gilt brass handles with their small chains for opening the drawers? These combined Chinese elements together make this antique box the work of beaty that she is. There certainly is some wear (consistent with age and use), but this box is as stabile as the day it was made and very much ready to be used and enjoyed by its next custodian. The green, glazed terracotta Buddha sculpture will soon be sold through 1stdibs as well.
