Antique Sterling Silver and Cranberry Glass Smoking Compendium Carriage

An exceptional, fine and impressive, rare antique Victorian English sterling silver and cranberry glass smoking compendium carriage; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection This exceptional, fine and impressive, unusual antique Victorian sterling silver smoking compendium has a rectangular shaped form. This base frame of the compendium has been modelled in the form of a carriage, with a cross shaped lower chassis fitted to either side with functional hallmarked spoked wheels. The central portion of the carriage retains the original cranberry glass body/cigarette holder. This rare cranberry glass cigarette holder is fitted with a plain silver mount to the rim ornamented with the engraved date '1889'. One end of the carriage frame bears a semi-cylindrical match holder, accented with a paralleling dishpan and applied match striker to the surface. The opposing end of the frame features an impressive sterling silver lighter, with a bulbous circular form. This exceptional compendium incorporates a conical receiver fitted with the original taper holder, accented with a pierced hole to the terminal and a tiered ball style finial/fingerpiece. The solid silver frame bears the retailer's mark 'Jones, 41 St James's St'. Condition This antique English smoker's compendium is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. Each component has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. The original and rare cranberry glass cigarette holder is in perfect condition. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the frame and part hallmarks to each wheel are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this exceptional example of smoking related antiques.     An exceptional, fine and impressive, antique Victorian English sterling silver and red cranberry glass inkwell; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver inkwell has a circular shaped domed form. The body of this exceptional antique inkwell is embellished with impressive pierced and embossed scrolling leaf decoration, accented with pensile, baluster style bead motifs. The ornamentation to the body incorporates five oval cartouches; four are ornamented with an embossed male profile: two bearded males and two in a soldier's helmet. The cartouche to the anterior surface of the inkwell features the contemporary engraved crest of a stag encompassed with a garter and the motto 'God and my Honour'. The intricate sterling silver body of the inkwell incorporates five conical shaped pen receivers. The swept waisted upper portion of this antique inkwell is fitted with a hinged hallmarked cover, ornamented with engraved simplified leaf decoration. The cover is surmounted with an impressive embossed three-dimensional bust of a male figure in robes. This antique inkwell retains the original and substantial red cranberry glass ink bottle liner, with a cut glass star motif to the underside; the cranberry glass liner is highly desirable. This exceptional silver and glass inkwell is supported by five swept feet, ornamented with a continuation of scrolling leaf and circular motif decoration from the body. The sterling silver body of the antique dish is embellished with impressive pierced decorated interlacing scrolling decoration, accented with simplified floral motifs, in addition to scrolling leaf designs to the lower portion. The body is further embellished with four large embossed swag style leaf designs. The large leaf designs alternate with embossed bead bordered cartouches, three incorporating cast and applied floral spray medallions and the fourth incorporating monogrammed initials. The upper rim of the dish is encompassed with an applied bead decorated border. This exceptional dish is fitted with two cast and applied handpieces, incorporating a figural mask encompassed with scrolling decoration.     An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver castle top vinaigrette depicting Abbotsford House, an addition to our collectable box collection. This exceptional antique silver vinaigrette has a rectangular form with rounded corners. The cover of this fine vinaigrette is embellished with a scene of Abbotsford House in high relief. The sides of the box are encompassed with bands of chased scrolling leaf ornamenation. The underside of the box is ornamented with engine turned decoration incorporating a plain rectangular vacant cartouche. Both the base and cover are embellished with applied scrolling leaf decorated borders. The hinged silver vinaigrette cover allows access to the original hallmarked hinged, pierced decorated silver gilt grille. The vinaigrette retains the original gilding; this has worn with age in a sympathetic fashion to an aesthetically pleasing mellow color. This exceptional vinaigrette was crafted by the renowned silversmith Nathaniel Mills. A historical country house which was the former residence of renowned novelist and poet Sir Walter Scott, situated in the Scottish Borders. Condition This antique vinaigrette is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition. The decoration is very sharp.
