Pair of French 19th Century Louis XVI St. Bronze and Ormolu Candelabras
About the Item
An exceptional and very high quality pair of French early 19th century Louis XVI st. patinated bronze, ormolu, and white Carrara marble candelabras circa 1805. Each five arm candelabra is raised by a square white Carrara marble base with cut corners and an elegant beaded ormolu band below the striking circular fluted column support with intricately detailed fitted chandelles and a richly chased wrap around foliate band. At the center are remarkable and most charming cherubs each draped in blooming floral garlands and a wonderfully executed flowing cloak standing in front of a tree trunk. The cherub to the left is holding a finely detailed ormolu ewer at his side with his other hand is supporting the basket on his head while the cherub to the right is holding it with both hands. The baskets display stunning attention to detail with lovely intricately woven designs and exceptional richly chased blooming flowers with hoop handles at each side. The five elegantly curved arms are each adorned with large acanthus leaves and scrolled Rinceau designs leading to lovely foliate bobeches with beaded bands and fine floral candle cups centering a staff like support with superb wrap around vines with lovely leaves, grape clusters, and a top acorn finial. All original gilt and patina throughout.
