Pair of Neo-Classical Candelabra by Barbedienne

About the Item

This Magnificent Pair of six arm neo-classical Candelabra represents some of the finest craftsmanships of the Time. Produced in Paris by one of the finest bronziers Ferdinand Barbedienne, ca 1870. Each element of the arms and candle cups are stamped BB as shown in the detail image. These solid patinated bronze Candelabra were inspired by recent discoveries in Pompeii and include elements of winged lions, foliate arms and a Heron as a finial. Great detail was taken into chasing and gilding, even the eyes of the lions are guilded.

Twelve candle arms are attached to the lower frame, while another six rise on top of the same frame with crystal spears for additional light reflection. Remember this dates from ca 1825 and the more gold and crystal prisms were present the more the room lit up by sheer reflection of candle light.
