Pair of Bronze and Crystal Temple Form Candlesticks Attributed to Parker & Perry
About the Item
A fine pair of late 18th century cut crystal temple form candlesticks attributed to Parker and Perry with Vandyke bobeches and candle cups, and cut-glass drops.
The bronze stepped plinth form bases with cut crystal columns support a faceted crystal and bronze domed 'roof'.
Parker and Perry were commissioned by the Prince Regent to create lighting for Carlton House, including a fifty-light chandelier for the Crimson Drawing Room.
Many of the Parker and Perry fixtures were removed at the dismantling of Carlton House, and placed in Buckingham Palace, where they remain today.

The tripod base in the shape of lions' paws is surmounted by a collar formed of aquatic vegetation where a salamander wanders. On the fluted, elegant and straight was another salamander hastens to find its congener. The shoulder supporting the four light arms in the shape of an oil lamp is highlighted by three African elephant heads. The sockets are original and removable.
