Rare Pair of 18th Century Georgian Bell Metal Candlesticks, England, circa 1760

About the Item

A very handsome and rare pair of mid 18th century bell-metal candlesticks, showing flaring seamed columns with cylindrical nozzles and flattened drip pans rising from stepped circular bases that retain their original & functioning push-rods. Both exhibiting an exceptionally warm pinkish patina due to the higher ratio of copper used in their composition, making these fine candlesticks far more closely associated with being a form of bronze versus that of brass. And as the name suggests, because of it's high quality, bell metal was used in the casting of bells as well as in casting items such as candlesticks and in some instances cannons.
