Austrian 18th Century Baroque Period Bracket Clock, Signed Andreas Hohenadl
About the Item
An attractive Austrian mid-18th century Baroque period quarter-striking bracket clock by the maker Andreas Hohenadl (1714-1793), Vienna. The ebonised fruitwood case with figurative brass carrying handle to the inverted bell top, arched glazed viewing apertures to the sides, on a stepped plinth base.
Silvered chapter ring and the matted brass centre is embellished with a mock pendulum and a date aperture above the VI. The clock is signed on a round silvered plaque in the arch, to the left with additional strike or silent indicator and to the right with a repetition or non-repetition indicator. The clock has a 32 hour movement and strikes the quarter hours on a small bell and the full hour on a separate larger bell, pull repeat. The backplate is lavishly engraved with scrollwork.
