1900s Antique Edwardian Sterling Silver Jewelry Box and Watch

About the Item

A exceptional, fine and impressive, antique Edwardian English sterling silver jewelry box and watch modeled in the form of a coal scuttle; an addition to our silver timepiece collection. This exceptional antique Edwardian sterling silver jewelry box and clock has been modeled in the form of a coal scuttle, with a plain trapezoid form and rounded lower edge all supported by four bun feet. The surface of this impressive antique silver jewelry box is plain and unembellished. This impressive antique clock / box is fitted with a plain rounded handle to the upper plateau. This exceptional example of Edwardian silverware features a gent's pocket / fob watch. The white enamel dial is ornamented with black hour numerals, encircled with plain black chapter ring of minute markers. The face of this timepiece is visible through a circular glass 'window' with an applied silver rope twist decorated border. The hallmarked hinged door opens to allow access to the watch with winding key; the door has an applied bun style handle to facilitate opening. The interior of this impressive antique silver jewelry box / clock has a velvet lining. Condition: This antique silver jewelry box and watch is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The piece has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. The movement has been professionally overhauled and is in working order. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the box, in addition to the part hallmarks to the rim of the door are all very clear. The surface of this Edwardian jewelry box is plain and embellished with two applied sterling silver balls to the anterior convex arched surface, replicating the details of the draw handles. The original hallmarked hinged cover is plain and parallels the shape of the body, opening to reveal the original segmented velvet interior. The weighted base of this exceptional antique box retains the original leatherette covering to the underside. The box is supported by four subtly tapering pillar style legs Note: The majority of such boxes have a wood lining to the interior; it is a sign of quality when boxes have unlined interiors in addition to a solid silver cover.
