William Cummens Federal Mahogany Tall Clock with Moon Phase Dial circa 1820

About the Item

An exceptional Federal mahogany tall case clock with a delicate fretwork crest, adorned with three ball and spire brass finials, surmounting an arched form glass door, opening to a hand painted Roman numeral metal clock face with moon phase, patriotic shield painted spandrels, inscribed “Warranted for W. Seth Peck, Wm Cummens”, with seconds hand and calendar aperture, flanked by two full columns with brass capitals. The molded edge waist door features delicate line inlay, opening to a large brass pendulum bob and two weights, flanked by reeded quarter columns with brass capitals. The delicate line inlay continues onto the base. William Cummens (1768-1834) was a well known clockmaker in Roxbury, Massachusetts, and was trained under Simon Willard. The clock, circa 1820, has an 8-day brass movement and is in very good working order, and includes a winding key, and two case keys. Very good overall condition, with minimal losses, restorations, imperfections, and light wear commensurate with age and use. Dimensions: 94 in H x 21 in W x 10.25 in D. Ref: 604
