Movement by Auguste Lemaire, Paris. Stamped to backplate with maker's mark and numbered "411", with white enamel chapter ring surrounding a gilt center inscribed "AUGst LEMAIRE" and "121 Rue Vielle-du-Temple/PARIS", the clock set within a gilt bronze columnar case raised on various feet and festooned with swags, laurel garlands, and grape vines, surmounted by a patinated bronze figural group of La Lecture, signed to base "A. CARRIER."
