About the Item

A stunning French mid 19th century Louis XV st. ormolu clock and candelabra garniture set, signed Barrand & Vignon Horlogerie, Paris. The clock is raised by an elegant scrolled Rocaille designed base with a delicate fluted design and a fine central cabochon. Luxuriant scrolled foliate supports lead up to the clock centered by a large richly chased acanthus leaf and adorned with finely detailed flowers that extend up the body. Above a lovely clover lattice shaped design is the striking clock face with beautiful foliate designs and a hammered background with fitted enameled reserves, cobalt blue roman numbers for the hours, and Arabic numbers at the border for the five minute increments. Above are richly chased floral garlands amidst an elegant foliate movement. The high quality French internal movement has the Barrard and Vignon mark on the backplate. The original matching candelabras at each side are a true pair and are each raised by superb pierced scrolled foliate bases and fine lightly curved fluted supports.
