French 19th Century Neoclassical Empire Style Ormolu and Marble Clock

About the Item

A spectacular mid 19th century French Neo-Classical Empire st. ormolu and marble clock. The clock is raised on a rectangular Vert Maurin marble base with ormolu supports. Centered at the front is an ormolu mount of shells and coral flanked by banners and foliate. Above is a moulded platform with a superbly chased chariot with a man touching the shoulders of maidens at his side and a cherub at each end, joined together by a floral garland. The enamel dial above supports a winged cherub in draped attire holding the reins of two doves pulling the chariot, surrounded by clouds. Rich detailed chasing throughout and all original gilt.
